Bangkok
Bangkok, a travel destination popular things to do or visit, offers more than night markets and temples. One time, a tuk-tuk driver took me for a shortcut that turned out to be a two-hour detour—I ended up with a new friend and a mysterious fruit. Street food here can teach you the meaning of patience when queuing, or the meaning of regret if you eat something spicy before a boat ride. The best hotel in Bangkok could be hidden behind an alley, or maybe right next to a 24-hour pancake stall. Locals will tell you to visit the floating markets, but sometimes the best stories come from getting lost between two skytrain stations. You’ll see travelers clutching maps, but the real navigators are the cats sleeping on the hood of taxis.

Bangkok travel destination popular things to do or visit: An unfiltered look
Every morning, the city wakes before the sun, and so do the street vendors. In Bangkok, you can find monks collecting alms, tourists collecting selfies, and a guy selling lottery tickets who swears his numbers are lucky. The best hotel in Bangkok is the one where the staff remembers your coffee order by the second day, or maybe the one with an elevator that smells like durian. You might try to plan your route, but sometimes it rains, sometimes it doesn’t, and sometimes your umbrella flips inside out in front of the Grand Palace.
Popular things to do or visit in Bangkok include riding a longtail boat, dodging mopeds, and buying clothes you’ll later wonder why you thought you needed. The Chatuchak Market has so many stalls that you’ll probably lose your sense of direction, if not your sense of fashion. A friend once tried to barter for a hat and ended up buying three. The rooftop bars promise a view, but sometimes the best view is from a tiny noodle shop with a fan that barely spins. If you ever lose your way, just ask a local—they might not speak English, but hand gestures and smiles are Bangkok’s secret language. Some say the city never sleeps, but I’m pretty sure it just naps with one eye open, especially during Songkran. Just don’t forget, flip-flops and cobblestones don’t mix well, as my stubbed toe can confirm.
