Tunis

Visiting Tunis brings stories to life.

In Tunis, a traveler finds more than the usual postcard stuff. There’s a guy near the medina who sells mint tea from a cart with one wheel always squeaking—locals say it’s good luck. Some streets seem to loop back on themselves, like the city is playing hide and seek. The market smells like cumin, leather, and sometimes, inexplicably, old shoes. You might see a cat snoozing on a Roman column or a young couple arguing over the best way to peel a fig. The list of popular things to do or visit in Tunis grows every year, but nobody mentions the old man who hums 80s pop songs beside Bab el Bhar. Maybe he’s the city’s secret mascot.

Best hotel in Tunis and other things to trip about

Looking for the best hotel in Tunis? Well, that's a bit like fishing in a bathtub: you might catch something, but it might also be your own sock. Most places promise a view, but sometimes it’s just a mural of a view. To truly experience Tunis, you need to walk until your feet complain, then sit in a café and count the passing taxis (bonus if you spot one with a disco ball inside, yes, that happened once).

Among travel destination popular things to do or visit, the Bardo Museum stands out, but not only for its mosaics. Last time, I watched a teenager try to take a selfie with a statue and almost drop his phone into antiquity. Carthage is a tram ride away; the ruins echo with stories, though mostly from guides who will insist Hannibal was their cousin. At sunset, join locals on Avenue Habib Bourguiba, where the air smells of roasted nuts and patience. Don't trust Google Maps after 8 PM—alleys seem to shift, or maybe that’s just the couscous talking. Tunis, it’s not a spellling bee winner, but it sure knows how to juggle memories.
